Hi, I am Sammy Scott
My story….
As a busy mum of two young children, I know what it feels like to be pulled in a million different directions. Juggling from dawn until dusk, always putting everyone else’s needs first, eating to get by, sleeping just enough to survive. A few kg’s overweight, fatigued, unmotivated and fed up. A tightly knotted ball of symptoms, grievances and to-do lists!
Eventually my body said ‘enough!’. Unbeknownst to me I used bruxism (grinding and clenching of the jaw at night) to process my days and relieve my anxiety. Out of the blue, over lunch, my jaw locked down and dislocated. What then ensued was months and now years of pain and frustration, and a plethora of different doctors/dentists/maxillo-facial surgeons/ physio’s and acupuncturists. Until I found the wonderful world of cranial osteopathy - where my incredible practitioners continue to take a holistic approach to my body, and have pieced me together like a jigsaw puzzle.
Crippling bouts of IBS and constant digestive issues; a post baby body; fatigue; anxiety and TMJ disorder prompted a much needed shift in my focus towards my own health and wellbeing. I began to educate myself on what constituted a nutrient-dense, healthy diet, and I discovered the nourishing world of yoga. We were living in South Africa, and it was there that my love affair with yoga began. Heated power vinyasa yoga was my tonic and my antidote. It was pure escapism from my life as a busy interior designer and a mum. It was my time, it was my self care, and my body, mind and soul all benefitted beyond measure. My decision to delve deeper into yoga and train as a teacher, was born out of a desire to be able to impart the healing gift of yoga to others.
Fast forward to early 2019, and many factors including the sad loss of my father to cancer, prompted a major move back to the UK from South Africa. After 13 very happy years there - an interior design business, a husband and two amazing children, I returned home ready to embark on the next stage of my life. The wellness industry became my focus, and despite a pandemic and several periods of home-schooling, I found IIN (The Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York). Becoming an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach has been a transformative personal journey as well as the most incredibly informative one. The combination of my yoga teacher training, my health coach training and my own personal journey to health, have perfectly placed me to make a really positive impact in the lives of those that I am lucky enough to work with.
I have personally and professionally come to realise that health is not a destination, but instead a non-linear, often imperfect journey that we move along daily. The food, exercise, spiritual, career and relationship choices we make directly impact the way our mind, body and soul function. We can choose to nourish ourselves on and off the ‘plate’ in a way that greatly enhances our lives and our well-being. I am here to help you to make and maintain lifestyle choices that will also greatly enhance your own path to wellness.
